Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi has officially lifted the curtain on its latest flagship, the Xiaomi 17, marking a major milestone in smartphone innovation. The device is the first phone to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, setting new performance benchmarks. Alongside raw power, it introduces a massive 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, blazing-fast charging, and a sleeker, more refined design.

Currently available only in China, the Xiaomi 17 is expected to roll out to global markets later this year.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi 17 comes with a flat aluminum frame and an IP68 rating, ensuring durability against dust and water exposure. On the front, users are greeted with a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display boasting a 1,220 x 2,656 resolution.

The screen supports a dynamic refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, and HDR10+. It achieves a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits — among the highest in the industry — and is shielded by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass.

Bezels are trimmed down to just 1.18mm on all sides, delivering an almost bezel-less experience. For security, the phone is fitted with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, offering faster and more reliable recognition than optical sensors.

Color options for the Chinese launch include black, white, blue, and pink.

Performance and Software

At its core, the Xiaomi 17 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 built on a 3nm process, supported by an Adreno 840 GPU. To sustain heavy workloads such as gaming, Xiaomi has included a 4,497mm² vapor chamber cooling system.

The device comes in two memory configurations: 12GB or 16GB of RAM, paired with 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot for expansion.

On the software side, the phone runs on HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, designed to deliver smoother performance while deeply integrating with Xiaomi’s ecosystem of devices.

Cameras

The rear camera array features three 50MP sensors:

  • 50MP wide (1/1.31-inch Light Hunter 950 sensor, 23mm equivalent, f/1.67, OIS, dual-pixel PDAF)

  • 50MP telephoto (60mm equivalent, 2.6x optical zoom, PDAF, OIS)

  • 50MP ultrawide (17mm equivalent, 102° field of view)

For selfies, Xiaomi has upgraded to a 50MP front-facing camera, promising sharper results and better performance across varying light conditions.

Battery and Charging

One of the Xiaomi 17’s standout features is its 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, a step up in energy density with up to 16% silicon content for better efficiency.

Charging is equally powerful:

  • 100W wired fast charging

  • 50W wireless charging

  • 22.5W reverse wireless charging

This makes it one of the most versatile charging setups on any flagship device in 2025.

Pricing

In China, the Xiaomi 17 will be available in three configurations:

  • 12GB + 256GB – approx. $630

  • 12GB + 512GB – approx. $672

  • 16GB + 512GB – approx. $700

As usual, international pricing is expected to differ once the global launch takes place.
