Eight leaders and ministers from Arab and Islamic states held a meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, stressing the urgent need to end the ongoing war in Gaza.
Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza
The leaders of Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan, along with the prime minister of Egypt and the foreign ministers of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, warned of the worsening humanitarian disaster in Gaza, where more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks since October 2023.
They emphasized that the conflict poses serious consequences for regional stability and has a profound impact on the wider Muslim world. Rejecting any attempt at the forced displacement of Palestinians, the leaders insisted that a just solution must prioritize Palestinian rights and sovereignty.
Calls for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Access
The delegation urged an immediate ceasefire, the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. They described these steps as essential for paving the way toward a lasting and just peace in the region.
They further underlined their support for a comprehensive reconstruction plan to rebuild Gaza, complete with security arrangements and international backing for the Palestinian Authority, which they endorsed in its ongoing reform process.
Protecting Jerusalem and the West Bank
In addition, the leaders stressed the importance of safeguarding Jerusalem’s holy sites and maintaining calm in the occupied West Bank, where violence by Israeli settlers has escalated since late 2023.
Cooperation with the US
The group reaffirmed their commitment to work with the United States under President Trump’s leadership to help end the war in Gaza and achieve long-term peace in the Middle East.
