The Punjab government has decided to fully digitize all toll plazas across the province to improve transparency and ease of travel for citizens.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The meeting approved the complete elimination of the manual receipt (paper slip) system at toll plazas and its replacement with a modern, digital system.
According to details, a “One App, One System” model—similar to the one used on motorways—will be introduced at 38 toll plazas across Punjab.
During the meeting, officials from various departments presented briefings on ongoing and upcoming development projects, including those related to transport, construction, energy conservation, and urban beautification.
The chief minister also approved five major road projects to be developed under public-private partnerships. She noted that this approach would help lower costs and speed up project completion by engaging private firms alongside government agencies.
It was revealed that the province has saved Rs 40 billion through e-tendering, reflecting improved transparency in project procurement. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also directed that solar streetlights be installed on all newly built roads to promote energy efficiency and support eco-friendly infrastructure.
Additionally, several projects were approved to enhance the beauty of Lahore. Plans include the installation of a fountain and a miniature train for children in the park in front of the railway station, as well as the construction of new roads and footpaths within a three-kilometer radius of the station.
The meeting was informed that 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods have been fully restored. Road rehabilitation projects in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal have also been completed.
