Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that the provincial government will begin distributing free “Pink Scooters” to women in Karachi this week, aiming to support safe and reliable travel for female commuters.
Reviewing Yellow Line BRT Progress
The minister shared the update while inspecting ongoing development work on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. He confirmed that the construction of depots and related infrastructure was progressing, while the Senator Taj Haider Bridge had entered its final phase and was expected to be completed within a week.
Transport Expansion with World Bank Support
Memon highlighted that the Sindh government, with assistance from the World Bank, is actively working on multiple transport initiatives across Karachi. Alongside the Pink Scooters distribution, the city will soon receive a fleet of double-decker buses and electric buses to further enhance public mobility.
Bus Manufacturing Plants in Sindh
He also disclosed that during President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China, meetings were held with stakeholders on establishing bus manufacturing plants in Sindh. According to the minister, such projects will not only strengthen the province’s transport infrastructure but also generate new employment opportunities for locals.
Addressing Project Delays
Acknowledging challenges, Memon admitted that hurdles such as utility transfers had caused delays in some transport projects. However, he assured that efforts were being made to resolve these issues quickly to keep Karachi’s transport modernisation plans on track.
