Pakistan’s Freelancers Could Generate $1 Billion in Annual Earnings: Experts

Pakistan’s freelancing community is poised to surpass $1 billion in annual earnings, driven by growing training initiatives, institutional support, and a rapidly strengthening digital ecosystem.

This projection was highlighted during the “AI Beyond Borders Summit 2025”, held on Thursday as part of the 26th ITCN Asia powered by Innovista in Karachi. Experts and stakeholders stressed that freelancers have become a vital force in the country’s digital economy, with increasing potential to attract international clients and secure Pakistan’s place on the global technology map.

Freelancers: The Backbone of Digital Growth

“Freelancers are key players in Pakistan’s digital economy, bringing valuable foreign exchange, establishing global trust in Pakistani talent, and creating opportunities for themselves, fellow youth, and women,” said Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers’ Association (PAFLA).

He revealed that Pakistan’s freelancing sector is on the verge of a historic milestone, with earnings expected to cross $1 billion annually. The number of freelancers, he added, is projected to exceed 2.3 million in the coming months, a clear sign of the industry’s upward trajectory.

Pakistan’s young, tech-savvy workforce is fueling this digital rise, supported by coordinated efforts from PAFLA, Innovista, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and 1Link. Training, Mentorship, and Tax Support

In his keynote address, Tahir Malik, Project Director at Innovista Indus, highlighted the company’s role in empowering freelancers across the nation. He explained that Innovista is facilitating entrepreneurship by offering training programs, mentorship opportunities, and assistance with tax-related challenges.

As part of this commitment, Innovista has also launched the National Agentic AI Hackathon, bringing together 1,000 participants from six cities. Malik emphasized:

“Our mission is to make freelancing a competitive and sustainable way of earning foreign exchange that contributes directly to IT exports and livelihoods nationwide.”

Muhammad Shahzab from 1Link underscored the critical role of financial infrastructure in strengthening the freelance economy.

“We are working at 1Link to build a seamless payment infrastructure that empowers freelancers by enabling fast, transparent, and efficient payments. This will not only strengthen Pakistan’s freelance economy but also allow professionals to compete more effectively on the global stage.”

With Pakistan already ranking among the top five freelancing markets worldwide, experts believe that targeted government policies, advanced training, reliable financial integration, and platforms like Innovista will help the sector scale exponentially in the years to come.
