OpenAI has officially released GPT-5, its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, featuring significant improvements in reasoning ability, context management, and task automation. The new model is now available to all ChatGPT users across multiple variants and subscription tiers.

Model Variants and Smart Routing

GPT-5 comes in four versions — nano, mini, standard, and chat. An internal routing system determines the most suitable variant for each request based on task complexity. For highly demanding queries, users can activate the GPT-5 thinking mode, which allows for deeper and more extensive reasoning.

Performance Enhancements

According to OpenAI, GPT-5 delivers PhD-level performance across more than 40 professional domains, including law, logistics, sales, engineering, healthcare, and software development. Hallucination rates — instances where the AI generates false information — are reported to be about 45% lower than in GPT-4o, offering more reliable responses.

Superior Coding and Benchmark Results

In programming-related benchmarks, GPT-5 has outperformed its predecessors:

GPT-5 can process up to 400,000 input tokens for both text and vision tasks, and generate outputs of up to 128,000 tokens. This expanded capacity allows for extended conversations and the ability to analyze large documents, datasets, or high-resolution images in a single session.

Users can personalize GPT-5’s tone and style by choosing from predefined modes — Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd. The model also integrates directly with Gmail and Google Calendar, enabling email management and scheduling from within the ChatGPT interface.
