The White House has unveiled a sweeping 20-point peace plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the ongoing Gaza war between Israel and Hamas. The announcement came during a press briefing in Washington, where Trump appeared alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

While Israel has welcomed the proposal, its success hinges on whether Hamas agrees to the terms. Trump emphasized that if accepted, the conflict could end “within days.” However, he also warned that a rejection would mean Israel continuing its military campaign “with full U.S. support.”

Key Features of the 20-Point Plan

The framework blends security guarantees, humanitarian relief, governance reforms, and economic recovery initiatives. Below are the highlights:

  1. Gaza will be transformed into a demilitarized, terror-free zone, ensuring no threat to its neighbors.

  2. The enclave will undergo redevelopment for the benefit of its residents, who Trump said “have suffered more than enough.”

  3. If both sides agree, the war will halt immediately. The IDF will pause operations and hold positions until conditions for withdrawal are in place.

  4. Within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance, all hostages — alive or deceased — must be returned.

  5. Once this occurs, Israel will release 250 life-term prisoners and 1,700 Gazans detained after October 7, 2023, including all women and children. For each deceased Israeli hostage returned, Israel will hand over the remains of 15 Gazans.

  6. Hamas members willing to decommission weapons and commit to peace will be granted amnesty. Others may seek safe passage abroad.

  7. Immediate humanitarian aid will flow into Gaza, including repairs to water, power, and hospitals.

  8. Aid delivery will be managed by the U.N., Red Crescent, and neutral agencies, with Rafah crossing opened under agreed terms.

  9. Gaza’s governance will transition to a technocratic Palestinian committee, overseen by a new international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump, with figures like former UK PM Tony Blair expected to join.

  10. A Trump economic recovery plan will bring in experts to design Gaza’s redevelopment and attract major investments.

  11. A special economic zone with preferential trade access will be created.

  12. Residents will not be forced to leave. Those who wish may do so freely, but the focus will be on encouraging people to stay and rebuild.

  13. Hamas and allied factions will have no role in governance. All tunnels, weapons facilities, and terror infrastructure must be dismantled.

  14. Regional partners will guarantee compliance, ensuring Gaza no longer poses a threat.

  15. A temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) will deploy in Gaza, training Palestinian police and working with Egypt and Jordan on border security.

  16. Israel will not annex Gaza. The IDF will gradually withdraw, handing territory to the ISF under a phased demilitarization plan.

  17. If Hamas delays or refuses, redevelopment and aid programs will proceed only in “terror-free” areas secured by the ISF.

  18. An interfaith dialogue program will promote tolerance and reshape Palestinian and Israeli narratives toward coexistence.

  19. As governance reforms progress, conditions will be built for a credible Palestinian pathway to self-determination and statehood.

  20. The U.S. will facilitate dialogue between Israel and Palestinians to create a long-term political framework for peace.

Reactions and Next Steps

Netanyahu hailed the plan as a “critical step toward peace.” Trump, meanwhile, struck an optimistic yet firm tone: “If Hamas accepts, the war ends within days. If not, Israel will finish the job.”

The proposal represents one of the most detailed U.S. peace initiatives in recent years, combining humanitarian relief, political reform, and security mechanisms. Its future, however, rests on whether Hamas agrees to engage with the terms — or rejects them outright.
