Punjab E-Taxi Scheme

The Punjab government has announced the launch of the province’s first-ever E-Taxi Scheme, a major initiative under the Transport Vision 2030 designed to promote eco-friendly, cost-effective, and modern transportation.

First Phase Rollout

In the initial phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed across Punjab. Citizens interested in applying can submit their forms online at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk until October 5, 2025.

According to officials, the program is expected to:

  • Reduce air pollution and improve environmental quality.
  • Cut fuel costs by shifting toward electric vehicles.
  • Provide affordable and modern travel options to the public.
  • Create new employment opportunities for drivers and vehicle owners.
  • Enhance urban mobility across the province.

Financing Support for Electric Vehicles

The E-Taxi initiative follows the government’s recent approval of a comprehensive financing framework for electric vehicles. Under this plan, participating banks will provide loans of up to Rs. 6.5 million to facilitate EV purchases.

Buyers will benefit from:

  • A subsidized down payment, with the government contributing Rs. 585,000 for vehicles priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million.
  • The provincial government covering the interest costs on loans, making repayments more affordable.
  • The remainder of the vehicle price being financed through partner banks.

A Step Toward a Greener Future

Provincial authorities highlighted that the E-Taxi Scheme is not only an employment-generation initiative but also a sustainability-driven policy. By encouraging the use of electric taxis, the Punjab government aims to address rising air pollution, traffic congestion, and dependence on fossil fuels, while aligning with its long-term transport modernization vision.
