The Punjab Education Department has confirmed the annual examination schedule for matric and intermediate students for the 2026 academic year.
Matric exams will begin on March 3, 2026, while intermediate board examinations will start on May 5.
The confirmation came after the department approved the revised admission policy, updated school calendar, and syllabus amendments for 2026. New textbooks, including 29 replacements from class six to matric, are set to be printed in December.
The academic year will start on April 1, 2026, with free textbooks distributed from April 5. The department also noted that Class 8 students will sit for a board-based exam beginning on February 3, reflecting the shift toward standardized assessment.
Punjab’s education sector continues to struggle with rising dropout rates and a growing number of out-of-school children. The province recorded 28 million out-of-school children in 2025, a number projected to pass 30 million in 2026.
