The 361st meeting of the Punjab University (PU) Senate was held on Thursday at the Senate Hall, Old Campus, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, who presided on behalf of the Punjab Governor in his capacity as Chancellor.

Major Decisions at the Senate Meeting

During the session, the Senate gave approval for scholarships worth Rs. 170 million, reaffirming the university’s long-standing commitment to financially supporting its students. The gathering also marked a historic development with the launch of Punjab University’s first-ever strategic plan, which outlines reforms in academic, financial, and administrative domains.

Commitment to Student Support

Addressing the Senate, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized that a majority of PU students are beneficiaries of scholarships, underscoring the administration’s dedication to ensuring no student is forced to discontinue education due to financial constraints.

He added that this year, every student will receive a subsidy of Rs. 219,000, while those residing in hostels will be entitled to an additional Rs. 150,000 subsidy.

Focus on Sustainability and Development

The Vice Chancellor further announced that the university would establish an endowment fund dedicated to research, pensions, and development initiatives. He highlighted that PU had already managed to achieve savings of Rs. 240 million in electricity costs over the past eight months, a step that reflects the institution’s focus on resource efficiency and sustainable management.

Financial and Academic Approvals

The Senate also reviewed and approved recommendations of the Academic Council, along with formal approval of the budgets for 2024–25 and 2025–26, ensuring continuity in academic and financial planning.

A Milestone in PU’s History

The introduction of the strategic plan was hailed as a milestone in PU’s history, as it aims to drive reforms, improve institutional governance, and enhance academic standards in line with global benchmarks.
