Pakistan’s textile industry has shown impressive resilience and positive growth in the fiscal year 2024–25, with significant increases in towel and ready-made garment exports, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Towel Exports Cross $1 Billion Mark
Towel exports reached 226,335 metric tons, generating $1.082 billion in revenue — a 2.61% increase from the previous year’s 222,720 metric tons worth $1.055 billion. This steady rise highlights continued global demand for Pakistani textile goods, particularly in the household segment.
Garment Exports See Double-Digit Growth
The most notable performance came from ready-made garments, which recorded a remarkable 15.85% increase in export volume. Over 80 million dozen garments were exported during the fiscal year, earning $4.128 billion — a major leap from 75 million dozen garments valued at $3.563 billion in FY 2023–24.
Industry analysts attribute this surge to growing international demand, operational efficiency, and strategic efforts by exporters to meet evolving quality standards.
Challenges Remain but Sector Shows Resilience
Despite challenges such as high production costs, energy shortages, and global economic uncertainties, the textile sector has continued to perform well. Exporters have adopted better manufacturing practices and market diversification strategies to stay competitive in a tough global environment.
Experts point out that ready-made garments remain the strongest driver of export growth, thanks to their value-added appeal and consistent international demand.
Calls for Government Support to Sustain Growth
Government officials and industry stakeholders view these results as encouraging signs of recovery and potential long-term growth. However, they also stress the need for continued policy support — including energy cost reductions, simplified export procedures, and incentives for value-added products — to maintain the current momentum.
Outlook for the Textile Industry
With garments leading the export charge, Pakistan’s textile industry appears to be in a strong position to expand its global footprint. Experts believe that with the right support, the sector could become an even more powerful engine of economic growth in the coming years.
