Google Search AI Can Now See, Read, and Respond to Everything You Ask

Google is rolling out a significant update to AI Mode in Search, introducing a range of interactive features across desktop and mobile platforms. The enhancements focus on image-based queries, document uploads, and real-time visual search, with several functionalities launching in the coming weeks.

On desktop, users can now ask complex questions about images using AI Mode—a capability previously available only in the Google app. Support for PDF uploads will follow soon, enabling users to submit documents and receive AI-generated insights and relevant web-based references.

Google stated that the tool will analyze a document’s content, cross-check it with online sources, and return helpful links for deeper exploration. Additional file formats are expected to be supported in the near future.

Canvas Feature Debuts in Google Search

A new feature called Canvas is also being introduced. Designed for multi-session planning, Canvas will let users create, update, and refine ideas in a dynamic side panel. AI Mode will intelligently organize input over time and use uploaded files for added context.

Canvas will initially launch in the United States for users enrolled in the AI Mode Labs experiment in the coming weeks.

Search Live Adds Video Input with Google Lens

Another major update is the expansion of Search Live, which is integrated with Google Lens. The feature now supports video input, allowing users to point their mobile cameras at objects, ask questions, and receive AI-powered answers in real time.

This feature begins rolling out this week in the US for AI Mode Labs participants.

AI Mode Comes to Chrome

Google Chrome is also receiving deeper integration with AI Mode. Users can now ask questions about any webpage or document directly from the browser through a new “Ask Google about this page” option in the address bar.

After initiating a query, AI Mode will present an AI Overview in a side panel. Users can continue the conversation with follow-up questions by selecting AI Mode or clicking the “Dive deeper” button.
