The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially has its match ball, following the governing body’s unveiling of “Trionda,” which will be used throughout the upcoming tournament jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The ball’s name, translated from Spanish as “three waves,” pays homage to this historic collaboration among three nations that have come together to stage football’s biggest event. Its vibrant red, green, and blue design serves as a tribute to the three hosts, while gold accents highlight the prestige of the FIFA World Cup Trophy itself.

Each country has been given its place in the ball’s visual story: Canada is represented by a maple leaf, Mexico by its iconic eagle, and the United States by a star. The design is further elevated by a new four-panel structure, featuring wave-like fluid geometry that forms a central triangle symbolizing the unity of the hosts.

Beyond aesthetics, Trionda has been engineered with cutting-edge technology. FIFA claims that Trionda offers greater in-flight stability and improved grip in wet or humid conditions. Carrying forward innovations first seen in Qatar 2022, the ball also features connected technology. A 500Hz motion sensor chip inside provides real-time data on every movement of the ball, feeding directly into the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. FIFA says this will sharpen officiating accuracy, particularly in offside decisions, and help maintain fairness at football’s grandest stage.
