The Ministry of IT & Telecom, in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), has launched Prime Minister’s SkillTech Pakistan, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming digital skills development and strengthening the country’s tech ecosystem. The announcement was made at the landmark event Building Tomorrow, which brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia.
A Future-Ready Digital Workforce
Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, unveiled the platform and emphasized its role in preparing Pakistan’s youth for the global digital economy.
“The Prime Minister’s SkillTech Pakistan platform will introduce six flagship programs designed to equip Pakistan’s youth with globally competitive skills, while supporting tech companies in achieving international compliance by strengthening industry linkages. This platform reflects our commitment to building a future-ready workforce and positioning the country as a premier global tech destination,” she stated.
The initiative focuses on empowering young Pakistanis with cutting-edge expertise in fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and software quality assurance.
Building on the DigiSkills Legacy
The Minister also credited Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of a Digital Nation Pakistan, noting the significant achievements of earlier initiatives.
She highlighted:
-
More than 3 million Pakistanis trained through the DigiSkills program.
-
IT export revenue reaching $691 million between July and August 2025 — a record figure for the sector.
According to Shaza Fatima Khawaja, SkillTech Pakistan builds on this foundation, taking the country closer to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of making Pakistan a global digital hub.
PSEB’s Roadmap for Digital Growth
PSEB CEO Abu Bakr further explained the broader vision:
“The Prime Minister’s SkillTech Pakistan program is about making our youth employable, competitive, and confident in the global marketplace. We have ambitious plans and aim to train more than 2.1 million Pakistanis within the next three years. This is our roadmap for positioning Pakistan as the region’s digital hub, by empowering students and enabling the industry.”
Key Initiatives Under SkillTech Pakistan
The platform includes six flagship initiatives, each targeting a specific gap in the digital landscape:
-
Skill Bridge: Connecting ICT graduates with employers through paid internships and apprenticeships, designed to close the academia-industry gap.
-
Certified to Export (C2X): Helping IT firms secure international certifications, such as ISO standards and GDPR compliance, enabling greater access to global markets.
-
Skilllift 1.0 Bootcamps: Offering advanced, hands-on training in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, web and mobile app development, and software quality assurance.
These initiatives aim not only to enhance youth employability but also to strengthen Pakistan’s IT sector by aligning it with international best practices.
