WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a handy new feature aimed at helping users manage busy conversations without missing important follow-ups. The messaging giant is currently testing a “Set Reminder” option that allows users to create reminders for specific messages directly within chats.
This new tool is being rolled out to select users via the latest Android beta update (version 2.25.21.14). Those included in the testing phase can press and hold any message, access the options menu, and find a new “Set Reminder” button.
Once tapped, users can select a time frame for the reminder — options include 2 hours, 8 hours, 1 day, or they can choose a custom date and time. Messages with active reminders will display a small bell icon, making it easier to identify them at a glance.
When the reminder time arrives, WhatsApp will send a private notification to the user. The alert includes the entire message content, any attached media (photos/videos), and even the name of the chat or group where the message was set. This allows users to return to the conversation contextually and respond accordingly.
Importantly, the reminder is visible only to the person who sets it — no one else in the chat will know about it. In line with WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy, all reminders are stored locally on the user’s device, meaning not even WhatsApp can access them.
At the moment, the feature is available only to a limited group of Android users, but the company has confirmed it will expand access in the coming weeks.
Whether it’s remembering a work task, following up on a family message, or simply replying to a friend later, this reminder feature is designed to help users stay organized — without letting any important messages slip through the cracks.
