Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) counters will soon be established in all union councils of the city to expand public access to registration and identity-related services.
The announcement was made on Friday during the inauguration of the newly upgraded NADRA Registration Centre at Babar Market, Landhi.
New NADRA Centres Planned Across Karachi
Mayor Wahab revealed that an immediate feasibility study will be undertaken for the construction of a new NADRA centre at Kakri Ground in Lyari.
He also highlighted that several large-scale “mega centres” are already under construction in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulberg, and Surjani Town, which will further strengthen the city’s registration infrastructure.
Modern Facilities at Upgraded Landhi Centre
The Landhi centre has undergone significant modernization:
- The number of single-window counters has increased from four to seven, allowing faster processing.
- The facility can now accommodate up to 120 people at a time.
- Separate restrooms for men and women, wheelchair access, and drinking water facilities have been added to improve visitor comfort.
NADRA’s Broader Upgrade Plan
Speaking at the event, Amir Ali Khan, Director General NADRA Sindh, confirmed that:
- Five centres in Karachi have already been refurbished.
- A total of 21 centres across the city are set to be upgraded under the current improvement plan.
He also addressed concerns regarding NADRA’s mobile application, acknowledging that users had faced some initial difficulties. However, he assured that once fully optimized, the app will ensure reliable and long-lasting service improvements for citizens.
Expanding Citizen Access
Officials stressed that these measures reflect NADRA’s continued focus on decentralizing services, reducing processing delays, and making essential registration facilities easily accessible for residents across Karachi’s neighborhoods.
