British singer-songwriter Lola Young has been forced to step back from the stage after collapsing during a live performance at the All Things Go Music Festival on Saturday, September 27, in New York City.
The 24-year-old artist, best known for her track Messy, was performing Conceited at Forest Hills Stadium when she suddenly collapsed. On-site medical staff rushed to her aid and carried her offstage as stunned fans looked on.
Performances Cancelled After Onstage Scare
In the aftermath, Young cancelled her scheduled appearance at the festival’s Washington, D.C. edition on September 28. The cancellation came just a day after she had already pulled out of Audacy’s We Can Survive concert on Friday, citing what her manager, Nick Shymansky, described as a “sensitive matter.”
The series of back-to-back cancellations has sparked concern among fans, especially as Young is set to launch her world tour on October 6 in Manchester, England.
A Candid Apology to Fans
Taking to Instagram, Young issued a heartfelt apology to her supporters.
“I’m sorry to confirm that I won’t be playing All Things Go in DC today,” she wrote. “I love this job and I never take my commitments and audience for granted, so I’m sorry to those who will be disappointed by this. I hope you’ll all give me another chance in the future. Thank you to all those who listen and care.”
She also addressed the emotional toll of online criticism:
“To all the people that love to be mean online, pls give me a day off.”
Reassurances From Fellow Artists
Immediately following the incident, fellow performer Remi Wolf spoke to the crowd:
“That was really f****** scary. My friend Lola is backstage, and she is okay.”
Just an hour later, Young herself reassured fans through her Instagram Stories:
“Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now… Thank you for all of your support, Lola xxx.”
A Performer Open About Struggles
Earlier in her New York set, Young admitted to fans that she had been going through a tough time, saying:
“Sometimes life can really make you feel like you can’t continue, but you know what, today I woke up and I made the decision to come here, and I wanted to be cool… and sometimes life can throw you lemons, and you just gotta make lemonade.”
The artist has long been candid about her mental health challenges. In a recent Elle UK interview, she discussed the relentless impact of online commentary:
“When you get a million comments, it’s hard not to let the bad ones in. Some days I can’t go online — the intensity and the remarks that target your insecurities can be too much.”
Young has also previously revealed that she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at age 17, a condition she continues to manage alongside her music career.
What Comes Next
The collapse comes just days after the release of her third studio album, I’m Only F—— Myself, which dropped on September 19. Despite the health scare, her world tour is still officially set to begin in early October, though her recent cancellations have raised questions about whether adjustments will be necessary.
