Over 53,000 tourist vehicles made their way to Murree on Independence Day, far exceeding the hill station’s parking capacity of 5,000 cars.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, the influx of vehicles created significant challenges, but efforts were made to manage the situation. More than 200 traffic police officers were deployed to assist visitors and maintain order. While 53,000 vehicles entered Murree throughout the day, many left after a short stay, resulting in an estimated 6,000 to 9,000 cars being present at any given time.

To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, driving licenses were checked at entry points, and motorcyclists without helmets were denied entry. Additionally, access to Mall Road was restricted to families only on Independence Day.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar and Traffic Officer Murree Sohail Shahzad personally oversaw the traffic arrangements. The spokesperson confirmed that all roads in Murree remained open, and traffic movement was generally smooth. Awareness pamphlets were distributed to tourists to promote safe travel practices.

However, heavy pedestrian activity at GPO Chowk caused some traffic congestion. Tourists were urged to follow traffic rules, park only in designated areas, and avoid creating double lanes or parking illegally. Traffic officers patrolled continuously to prevent violations and ensure a steady flow of vehicles.

In light of the ongoing monsoon season, the City Traffic Police Murree issued a special advisory for visitors. CTO Waseem Akhtar emphasized the importance of checking driving licenses and vehicle fitness certificates for public service vehicles entering the area. Tourists were advised to use suitable vehicles, ensure wipers and lights were in working order, avoid speeding on slippery roads, and refrain from overtaking or violating one-way traffic rules.

The CTO also reminded visitors that all roads in Murree are two-way, and creating double lines disrupts traffic. He discouraged parking on roadsides for photography, as it hampers traffic flow. Tourists were encouraged to cooperate with traffic wardens, who play a vital role in ensuring safety and making travel more convenient.
